Safety Glass
Full tempering increases the strength of the glass and its resistance to thermal stress. Ardıç Cam’s tempering process involves heating and cooling stages along a horizontal line to impart compressive stress on the outer surfaces and tensile stress in the center. Tempered glass is about five times stronger than non-tempered glass and, upon breaking, fractures into small pebble-sized pieces, reducing injury risk—making it suitable for safety applications.
Thermal treatment does not alter the product’s volume, chemical composition, color, or clarity. Clear float, tinted float, pre-laminated, and coated glass can all be thermally treated. After treatment, no cutting, drilling, edging, or surface processing can be performed on the glass panel.
Distortions—such as “tempering marks,” “warp,” and “roll”—are inevitable effects of thermal treatment but remain within acceptable tolerances and are only visible under specific viewing angles and lighting. When tempered using a precise thermal regime, these marks are minimal and are not considered defects.
Although rare, spontaneous breakage from microscopic inclusions in the glass can occur. Fully tempered glass may undergo a heat-soak test as a precautionary measure.
Tempered glass is produced to the TS EN 12150 standard for thermally tempered soda-lime-silicate safety glass used in glazing applications.
